Angélique Kidjo, the Grammy-winning Beninese singer, has unveiled details of her highly anticipated upcoming album ‘Hope’.
The five-time Grammy winner took to social media on
Wednesday to announce the project, revealing that the 14-track album is the
culmination of five years of dedicated work and arrives on April 24.
The project holds deep personal significance for Kidjo, as
it is dedicated to her late mother Yvonne who passed away five years ago.
In the new album, Kidjo enlisted a powerhouse lineup of
Nigerian music stars including Davido, Ayra Starr and music duo The Cavemen.
“5 years in the making 🧡 : my new album HOPE!!
dedicated to my mother Yvonne is coming out on April 24th. She is the one who
taught me that every dream I had could be accomplished, that HOPE for a better
future is what makes us human. She left us 5 years ago, but her message resonates
to this very day,” she wrote.
“I put my whole heart into this album, and I’m so GRATEFUL
to all the great artistes who have contributed their genius to the album.”
Beyond the Nigerian stars, the album boasted an impressive
and diverse array of talent including American superstars Pharrell Williams,
Nile Rodgers, Quavo, and Charlie Wilson.
The album also featured French artistes Florent Pagny and
Dadju, Congolese star Fally Ipupa, Tanzanian singer Diamond Platnumz, Brazilian
singer Iza, and renowned musician PJ Morton.
The Soweto Gospel Choir also featured on the project.
The collaboration marks a continuation of the strong musical
relationship between Kidjo and Davido.
The pair previously worked together on Kidjo’s 2024 track
‘Joy,’ and Davido later featured the legendary singer on ‘Na Money,’ a standout
record from his acclaimed ‘Timeless’ album.
