Aiyedatiwa swears in 32 new permanent secretaries

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has called for improved service delivery while swearing in 32 permanent secretaries in the state.

Aiyedatiwa made the call during the swearing-in ceremony on Friday in Akure, urging the permanent secretaries to ensure effective delivery of government policies and programmes.

He said the exercise, which was the third since his administration assumed office, was part of efforts to reposition the state’s bureaucracy for greater efficiency and improved service delivery.

According to him, the public service is a time-tested institution that drives government policies and programmes.

“Political leadership may change, but the public service remains the engine room of governance.

“I am aware that many of you have acted in the capacity of accounting officers for considerable periods without commensurate remuneration, yet you continued to give your best.

“Your appointment is, therefore, a formal recognition of your stewardship and dedication to duty. Be reminded that your new positions come with enormous responsibilities.

“Work towards advancing our developmental blueprint and ensure that government policies translate into tangible benefits for the people.

“This government has recruited over 4,000 personnel into key sectors such as teaching, health, legal, agriculture, administration, culture and taxation to strengthen the workforce,” he said.

Earlier, the state Head of Service, Mr. Bayo Philip, urged the permanent secretaries to demonstrate diligence, loyalty and commitment in their duties.

Philip described their appointment as the beginning of a new phase of responsibility, stressing the need to justify the confidence reposed in them.

“You have been chosen from several qualified officers. Prove the system right in selecting you.

“Work with the consciousness that the public service matters and that your diligent service matters,” he said.

Responding, one of the permanent secretaries, Mr. Lanre Akarakiri, appreciated the governor for the opportunity to serve and promised to uphold the civil service rules.
