The African Democratic Congress, ADC, has rejected claims linking it to any particular political figure like former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, and others ahead of the 2027 presidential race.
The party emphasized that its platform is open to all
interested aspirants.
During an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics
Today, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, refuted
suggestions that the ADC is being positioned as a vehicle for Atiku, Peter Obi,
Amaechi or any other contender.
He stated, “We will not be blackmailed into taking an early
position. Zoning is under consideration, and discussions are ongoing at a
strategic level, but I cannot disclose specifics at this time.”
Abdullahi made it clear that no aspirant has been endorsed
by the party, noting that this stance also applies to figures such as Obi and
Amaechi, among others, who may seek to run on the ADC platform.
“Certainly not. People may hold their own views, but I can
say categorically that this is no more about Atiku Abubakar than it is about
Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, or anyone else interested in contesting under our
platform,” he said.
He explained that the party’s priority is to develop an
inclusive political movement rather than advance the ambition of any
individual, adding that internal consultations, including decisions around
zoning are still in progress.
According to him, the ADC will make its major decisions at
the right time and will not rush into sensitive matters that require careful
agreement among stakeholders.
Abdullahi also urged opposition groups to work together,
cautioning that disunity could give the ruling party an advantage and weaken
democratic competition as the 2027 elections approach.
