2027: Only Buhari Could Defeat Kwankwaso Consistently – Bashir Ahmad Warns

Former presidential aide Bashir Ahmad has publicly recognized the formidable political influence of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso in Kano State, declaring that he would never undermine it due to his own roots in the state.

In a statement that highlights the deep respect for Kwankwaso's grassroots support even among political opponents, Ahmad noted that in his years of active politics, only the late President Muhammadu Buhari consistently managed to defeat Kwankwaso both at the state and national levels.

“I am from Kano, which is why I will never undermine the political strength of Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso,” Ahmad said. “In my active political life, only the late President Buhari was able to consistently defeat him at both the state and national levels. We will certainly make every effort to do that again, but one thing is clear, it will not come easy.”

The remarks come amid discussions about Kwankwaso's recent political moves, including reports of his potential defection from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which some analysts believe could reshape alliances and voter dynamics in Kano ahead of future elections, particularly 2027.

Ahmad, who served as a special assistant to former President Buhari, emphasized the resilience of Kwankwaso's base, often associated with the Kwankwasiyya movement, known for its strong mobilization in Kano politics. His comments reflect a pragmatic assessment within APC circles that countering Kwankwaso's influence requires significant effort, despite past successes under Buhari.
