20227: Gov Uba Sani Pledges Neutrality in Party Primaries, Rejects 'Godfatherism' Claims

Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has firmly stated that he has no anointed or preferred candidate for any elective position ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The governor emphasized his commitment to allowing a free, fair, and transparent process within the All Progressives Congress (APC) to determine party candidates.

In a recent statement, Governor Sani declared: "I have no anointed candidates for 2027." He stressed that he will not interfere in the party's internal selection mechanisms, urging all aspirants to focus on building genuine support among party members and delegates."

"My advice to every aspirant who is seeking any office is to get the support of party members," the governor said, highlighting that success should come through grassroots engagement and merit rather than external imposition.

This position comes amid preparations for the 2027 elections, where the APC in Kaduna is also targeting strong performances, including delivering substantial votes for President Bola Tinubu's expected re-election bid.

Governor Sani's hands-off approach on candidate selection is seen as an effort to promote party unity, internal democracy, and avoid the perceptions of imposition that have marked some past primaries in Nigeria.

The governor's assurance is expected to encourage a level playing field for aspiring politicians in Kaduna State, whether contesting for governorship, legislative seats, or other roles, as the APC gears up for its primaries.
