Yilwatda Welcomes NNPP, PDP Defectors in Kano Ahead of Gov Yusuf's Official Reception

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, on Sunday, February 15, 2026, supervised the defection of several members from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC in Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area.

The event served as a lead-up to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s formal welcoming rally into the party, following his defection from the NNPP in late January 2026.

At the rally, party faithful and the new defectors openly endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office and Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for re-election in 2027.

A prominent indigene of the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency publicly called on Hon. Mustapha Bala Dawaki, Chief of Staff to the APC National Chairman and former representative of the constituency to return to active politics and contest the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa House of Representatives seat.

The gathering featured a strong lineup of APC leaders, including:

APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda

Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin

Former APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje

Kano State APC Chairman, Abdullahi Abbas

Executive Chairman of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGi), Ismail Ahmed

Special Adviser to the President on Senate Matters, Senator Bashir Lado Mohammed

Several other senior party figures

These defections build on the APC’s recent gains in Kano, including Governor Yusuf’s switch, the movement of 22 state House of Assembly members, and several federal lawmakers into the party, further consolidating the ruling party’s influence in the state ahead of future elections.
