FCT Minister Nyesom Wike on Thursday led a high-powered delegation of Rivers State political leaders to London for a condolence visit to the family of the late Senator Barinada Mpigi, who represented Rivers South-East Senatorial District.
Senator Mpigi, aged 64, passed away last Thursday in London after a brief illness. Described by Wike as a "dependable ally who stood by his friends even during trying times," the late senator's death has been mourned as a significant loss not only to the Ogoni people and Rivers State but to Nigeria as a whole.
In a statement issued in London by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, Wike conveyed heartfelt condolences to the senator's widow, Mrs. Patricia Obiageri Mpigi, and their children on behalf of Rivers State leaders.
Wike emphasized that the delegation was sent by the leadership of Rivers State, noting that some elders could not travel due to age but had mandated the visit before the family returns home.
He pledged continued support to the bereaved family and assured them that the late senator would receive a befitting burial.
Accompanying Wike were his sons, Jordan and Joaquin; Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule; Senators Magnus Abe, Allwell Onyesoh, and Olaka Nwogu; Rivers PDP Chairman Aaron Chukwuemeka; and other prominent figures including Felix Nweke and Kenneth Chikere.
