'Wike is a Vagabond Who Surfaced Fully in 2015 but Was Expelled in 2025 — Makinde

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has branded Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike a "vagabond" in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), accusing him of meddling in Oyo State's party affairs despite his own record in Rivers State.

The explosive comments came during a public address on February 3, 2026, shortly after Wike declared his keen interest in the activities of the Oyo PDP chapter.

Speaking amid the commissioning of a new PDP secretariat in Ibadan or a related party event, Makinde invoked a Yoruba proverb about a peaceful household where the "vagabond" has yet to mature, before directly applying it to Wike and his associates.

"The vagabonds in the PDP, they grew up in 2015, they had their time and 10 years, they practised their vagabondry in the PDP but they were expelled in November 2025," Makinde stated.

"Nyesom Wike is a vagabond who surfaced fully in 2015 and was expelled in 2025. Ask him what he has done with the PDP in Rivers State to now have an interest in Oyo PDP."

Makinde further confessed to a past alignment with Wike's faction, saying, "Let me confess, I came into government in 2019, and towards 2023, I was aligned with them, but now I have repented. I am now born again."

He firmly rejected any notion of allowing the PDP to be used to advance another party's interests, particularly in the context of alleged cross-party maneuvers ahead of the 2027 elections.

The exchange stems from escalating tensions within the PDP, where the once-close alliance between the two politicians, part of the influential G5 governors group—has fractured. Wike's February 2, 2026, statement emphasizing his interest in Oyo PDP's "survival, stability, and success" was widely seen as a challenge to Makinde's leadership in the state chapter.
