Dele Momodu, the publisher of Ovation magazine, has reassured the public that the family is working to resolve the child custody dispute between Davido and his cousin Sophia Momodu.
The legal battle concerns the custody of Imade Adeleke,
Davido’s daughter with Sophia. The pair dated in 2015, and their daughter was
born on May 14 of that year.
In 2024, Davido filed a motion at a Lagos high court,
seeking unrestricted access to his daughter. However, Sophia responded by
arguing that she had never denied him access to the child.
Last week, the Afrobeats star announced he was withdrawing
the custody case, clarifying that his intention was never to seek sole custody
of Imade, but rather to establish a structured co-parenting arrangement.
Davido also addressed some of the more painful moments of
the court proceedings. He revealed that the case had taken an emotional turn
when Sophia’s counsel introduced a deeply personal tragedy, referencing his
late son. He described the move as a “low blow”.
In a recent Instagram post, Momodu, who is in Liberia,
shared that he had received numerous messages from concerned individuals about
the situation.
He said among them was a fan of Davido who urged him to
intervene and help settle the disagreement.
Momodu noted the high regard Liberians have for the singer,
describing him as being treated like a “god of music” in the country.
He reassured his followers that the family is actively
working behind the scenes to resolve the matter. He also called on everyone to
keep all parties involved in their prayers.
“Here in Liberia, @davido is treated as the god of music.
I’ve been visiting here for over two decades but this visit is different. I
came to commiserate with my friend and Sister, former Vice President H.E DR
JEWEL HOWARD-TAYLOR on the passing of her only child, CHARLES PHILIP NEILSON
TAYLOR JR,” he wrote.
“Since landing here, I have been inundated with messages
from fans of David, and ladies who love @thesophiamomodu to bits… One of them
is this “fashion designer ” @lorine doe who said I should step in and settle
the “quarrels.
“My dear Sister, thanks so much. Nothing to worry about.
Everything is going to be alright … We are working behind the scenes. Pls, keep
everyone in your prayers.”
