Arsenal icon Thierry Henry sparked a feel-good moment on live television after greeting Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen in Nigerian Pidgin during a post-match interview.
The exchange followed Galatasaray’s thrilling knockout play-off victory over Juventus in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night.
Henry, working as a pundit for CBS, interviewed Osimhen after Galatasaray edged Juventus 7–5 on aggregate to reach the competition’s second round for the first time in 12 years.
Osimhen was among the heroes, scoring one of the decisively goals in extra time to push the Turkish champions through. Galatasaray had earlier seized control of the tie with a commanding 5–2 first-leg win, but a flat performance in the return fixture allowed Juventus to mount a comeback, netting three times to force extra time.
In the additional period, the Istanbul side struck twice to seal qualification.
The post-match chat began with a surprise when Henry opened in Pidgin before moving into analysis.
“Victor, this is Thierry. First and foremost, how bodi? Bodi dey?” Henry asked.
Amused by the effort, Osimhen replied with a grin, “Yeah, bodi dey fine.”
Henry’s familiarity with Nigerian football culture dates back to his time at Arsenal between 1999 and 2004, where he played alongside former Super Eagles star Nwankwo Kanu, who later featured for West Bromwich Albion.
The French legend has also often praised Jay-Jay Okocha, whom he faced multiple times in the Premier League. In 2017, Henry visited Lagos, where he was honoured with the title “Igwe of football.”
