Troops Intercept Suspects With N37m Cash in Borno

 


Nigerian Army troops attached to Operation HADIN KAI have arrested five individuals suspected of transporting approximately ₦37 million in cash under questionable circumstances.


According to security sources, the suspects, three men and two women—were apprehended in a red Golf wagon bearing registration number MNG 463 XA while en route to Magumeri.


The vehicle was halted at a routine military checkpoint, where troops discovered the substantial sum concealed inside a "Ghana must go" bag and a sack. During initial questioning, the suspects claimed ignorance of the exact amount but later stated that the money was intended for distribution to beneficiaries of a non-governmental organisation.


A search of the vehicle also yielded about 10 assorted mobile phones, which were recovered as exhibits.The suspects, along with the seized cash and other items, are set to be transferred to relevant authorities for comprehensive investigation.Military officials emphasized their ongoing resolve to intensify surveillance across operational zones in the Northeast. 


This includes heightened efforts to curb the movement of illicit funds and materials that could support criminal elements or insurgent groups like Boko Haram and ISWAP.
