The Lagos State Domestic and S#xual Violence Agency (DSVA) has launched an urgent effort to locate a young TikToker known as Mirabel, following her account of being s#xually assaulted in her own home.
In a series of distressing videos posted on her TikTok page,
Mirabel tearfully detailed the traumatic incident, which she said occurred at
her residence on February 15.
Struggling to hold back tears, the young woman revealed that
she has been battling severe insomnia, relying on alcohol or drugs to force
herself to sleep.
She said on the morning of the attack, she woke up to a
knock at her door. Believing it was a neighbour, she opened it, only to be
confronted by a stranger who forcibly pushed his way inside.
Mirabel stated that she lost consciousness after being
shoved to the ground. When she regained awareness, the intruder was in the
process of raping her.
Following the assault, she began bleeding profusely,
initially mistaking the hemorrhaging for the start of her menstrual cycle.
Mirabel revealed that she later received a message from an
Instagram account bearing the name “Priston”.
The user allegedly confessed to the crime, claiming he had
repeatedly tried to date her and, when rebuffed, decided to take extreme
action.
The attacker reportedly boasted about coming from a wealthy
family, suggesting he has the influence to manipulate any police investigation.
Mirabel posted another video on Tuesday revealing that she
had attempted to take her own life by consuming a toxic substance.
She credited a friend with saving her life by rushing her to
the hospital. In the video, her speech appeared laboured, and she explained
that she was too exhausted to respond to messages directly.
“I am too tired, I can’t respond to the message. I will
respond when I get better, thank you,” she wrote.
The clips sparked widespread outrage and concern across
social media, quickly drawing the attention of state authorities.
In an official statement released via its X handle, the
Lagos DSVA confirmed it was actively monitoring the situation and attempting to
make contact with the lady.
“The Lagos State Domestic and S#xual Violence Agency has
taken note of the multiple tags and public concerns regarding a video currently
circulating on social media, in which a young woman shared her experience of
s#xual assault at her residence on her TikTok page,” the post reads.
“We want to state clearly that we have seen the reports and
we are actively making efforts to reach the survivor to offer immediate support
and appropriate intervention and ascertain the location. Our team has initiated
contact through available channels and will continue efforts to establish
communication.”
The agency appealed to the public for help, urging anyone
with credible information on Mirabel’s whereabouts to come forward.
“If anyone has credible information that can assist us in
reaching her directly and safely, please contact the Agency by sending us a DM
on any of our official social media channels,” it added.
“The Lagos State Government maintains a zero tolerance stance against all forms of Domestic and S#xual Violence. S#xual Assault is a crime, and every survivor deserves protection, care, support and justice.
