A tragic accident occurred on Wednesday night in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, where a trailer loaded with cement crushed a teenage Heelys rider to death near Terminus Market.
Eyewitnesses said the incident happened at approximately 9:30 pm when the Heelys rider, who was riding on Murtala Muhammed Way, held onto the moving trailer.
According to an eyewitness, Musa Audu, “The tire of the truck hit him, threw him down, and immediately the truck ran over him, killing him instantly.”
The accident has sparked concern among residents and market traders, who have expressed their condolences to the victim’s family.
When contacted, the General Manager of Jos Main Market, Mangnan Wamyil, said authorities would investigate the accident while calling for increased safety measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
“I will find out what happened. There is a need to ensure that such an accident does not happen again,” he added.
The chairman of a section of Terminus Market, Nasiru Yahaya, confirmed the incident and noted that Heelys riders, particularly children, often engage in reckless riding in the area, especially at night.
“This is not the first time such an incident has happened in the area,” Yahaya said, describing it as “pathetic.”
He urged caution and responsible riding practices among Heelys enthusiasts.
