President Bola Tinubu has directed the immediate deployment of an army battalion to Kaiama Local Government Area in Kwara State following a brutal overnight terrorist attack that claimed numerous lives in the village of Worro.
The President announced that the new military unit will lead Operation Savannah Shield, a targeted initiative aimed at neutralizing the barbaric terrorists identified as Boko Haram elements and safeguarding vulnerable communities from further violence.
In a strongly worded statement, President Tinubu condemned the assault as a "cowardly and beastly" act, slamming the attackers as heartless for deliberately targeting defenseless civilians.
He expressed particular outrage over reports that the gunmen killed community members who had rejected attempts at extremist indoctrination, opting instead to uphold a peaceful and non-violent practice of Islam.
"It is commendable that the community members, even though Muslims, refused to be conscripted into a weird belief that promoted violence over peace and dialogue," the President stated.
The attack has been described in official accounts as a desperate escalation by terrorists facing mounting pressure from security operations.
President Tinubu called for enhanced collaboration between federal and state agencies to deliver immediate relief to affected residents and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice without delay.
He offered heartfelt prayers for the repose of the souls of the deceased and extended condolences to grieving families, the people of Kwara State, and the state government.
