EFCC Appears to Only be Efficient Toward Opposition – ADC

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of operating with selective efficiency, targeting opposition figures while showing leniency toward members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

In an interview on Arise Television aired recently (as reported by Daily Post on February 20, 2026), ADC National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi expressed deep concern over the perceived partisanship of national anti-corruption institutions.

"We are concerned that national institutions are being turned into partisan agents," Abdullahi stated.

"Individuals in the APC have used their broom to sweep all their court cases and investigations under the carpet."

He argued that the EFCC demonstrates remarkable speed and vigor when pursuing opposition politicians but appears slow or inactive on similar allegations involving ruling party members.

This pattern, according to him, undermines public trust in the agency's independence and suggests it functions more like a political tool than an impartial body fighting corruption.

The comments come amid broader criticisms from opposition groups about the EFCC's activities, including recent summons and probes directed at figures aligned with opposition coalitions.

Abdullahi's remarks highlight ongoing debates in Nigeria about the neutrality of federal agencies ahead of future elections, with calls for the EFCC to refocus solely on corruption regardless of political affiliation.

The EFCC has previously denied such accusations, insisting its operations are evidence-based and not politically motivated.
