The Ikeja Electric Distribution Company (IKEDC) says its recent customer data update notice applies strictly to corporate customers, vendors, and strategic business partners.
On February 11, Ikeja Electric directed customers to provide
tax identification details to ensure seamless electricity billing on or before
February 20, in line with the Nigeria Tax Act (2025).
In a public notice, the electricity distribution company
(DisCo) warned that customers who fail to submit the required details may be
unable to receive electricity bills.
This, Ikeja Electric said, could result in service
suspension after the deadline.
However, in another notice on Friday, IKEDC clarified that
the directive only applies to businesses and corporate customers.
The DisCo said the initiative was driven by compliance
requirements under the Nigeria Tax Act (NTA) 2025 and related regulations, as
well as to support its internal know-your-customer (KYC) and know-your-business
(KYB) risk management processes.
“Please note that the notice applies strictly to corporate
customers (B2B), as well as our vendors and strategic business partners,” the
company said.
“This initiative is driven by compliance requirements under
the Nigeria Tax Act (NTA) 2025 and related regulations, and also supports our
internal KYC/KYCB risk management processes.
“Under the NTA 2025, supplier invoices (including those
issued by Ikeja Electric) are required to carry prescribed details, including
Ikeja Electric’s Tax ID and CAC Registration Number.”
Ikeja Electric said the implementation framework of the
Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) requires that invoices be uploaded and validated
on the agency’s portal.
“Where such validated invoices are transmitted to corporate
customers through the portal, the customer’s Tax ID becomes a mandatory field
for processing and verification,” the notice added.
The company assured affected customers that the data update
and validation process would be seamless and would not disrupt service
delivery, reiterating that the requirement applies only to corporate customers.
