Sokoto State has procured and begun distributing a total of 102 trucks of fertilizer comprising 52 trucks of Urea and 50 trucks of NPK to support dry season farmers across its 23 Local Government Areas.
Under the initiative, each Local Government Area receives an allocation of two trucks of Urea and one truck of NPK. The fertilizers are being sold to verified genuine dry season farmers at significantly subsidized rates: a bag of Urea is priced at ₦19,000, while NPK goes for ₦18,000.
The program was flagged off by Governor Ahmed Aliyu, who emphasized his administration's steadfast commitment to revolutionizing agricultural production and ensuring sustainable food security not only in Sokoto State but across Nigeria.
Governor Aliyu highlighted ongoing infrastructure projects, including the completion of the Lugu Dam and Kware Irrigation schemes, which will enable year-round farming activities. These efforts align with the state's Nine-Point Smart Agenda aimed at driving agricultural transformation and economic growth.
Farmers' representatives expressed appreciation to the Sokoto State Government for its consistent support in advancing agriculture and strengthening key sectors of the economy.
The subsidized distribution, which follows a ₦3 billion investment by the state, is designed to make essential inputs more affordable and accessible, encouraging increased productivity during the dry season.
