Sokoto Panel Indicts Tambuwal Over Alleged ₦117bn Fraud

A judicial commission of inquiry in Sokoto State has submitted a damning report accusing the eight-year administration of former Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of widespread financial irregularities amounting to over ₦117 billion.

Justice Mu’azu Abdulkadir Pindiga (rtd), chairman of the commission, presented the findings to Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto yesterday.

The report points to alleged violations including disregard for public procurement laws, weak internal financial controls, and abuse of executive authority.

The panel was set up to examine the previous administration’s conduct using verifiable records and sworn testimonies, in line with constitutional requirements and public interest.

The report is divided into five main sections: background of the inquiry, testimonies received, detailed findings, recommendations, and a summary with conclusions to guide government action.

Justice Pindiga commended the commission members for their dedication, professionalism, and impartiality, stating the investigation was conducted without fear or favour.

Governor Aliyu described the panel’s establishment as a constitutional duty rather than political vendetta.

He said a committee will be formed to produce a white paper on the report, promising fairness to all parties found culpable.
