Vice President Kashim Shettima, GCON, has arrived at the scene of the tragic fire outbreak at Singer Market in Kano State to personally console victims, traders, and residents affected by the disaster.
Acting on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's directive, the Vice President is leading a high-powered Federal Government delegation to express the President's sympathy, pledge financial relief to those who suffered massive losses, and support efforts to reopen the market quickly.
The blaze, which started on Saturday evening (February 14, 2026) and continued into Sunday, devastated one of Nigeria's largest food markets. It destroyed goods, including sugar, flour, bottled drinks, and other essentials worth billions of naira, impacting over 1,000 businesses.
Reports indicate seven people were feared missing, with total property losses estimated at over ₦5 billion.
This marks the second major fire at Singer Market in just two weeks, sparking widespread concerns about recurring safety hazards in the densely packed trading hub.
Authorities have linked the incident to a solar battery explosion.During the visit, Vice President Shettima toured the damaged areas, met with affected traders, and reaffirmed the Federal Government's commitment to providing aid, investigating the causes, and preventing future incidents.
