Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima has made a direct and impassioned appeal to Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) George Akume and Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia to resolve their differences, mend fences, and collaborate closely for the benefit of Benue State and the nation.
The Vice President delivered the plea today during his address at the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) Renewed Hope Ambassadors Summit, held at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Shettima emphasized the importance of unity within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) family, describing ongoing tensions between the two prominent Benue leaders as unnecessary and counterproductive at a time when collective effort is needed to drive development and deliver on the Renewed Hope agenda.
“I want to make a special appeal to SGF George Akume and Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia to mend fences and work together,” the Vice President stated.
“Benue State deserves the full cooperation of its leaders, both at the state and federal levels to attract investments, strengthen security, and improve the welfare of the people.”
The public call for reconciliation comes amid reported strains in the relationship between Akume, a former Benue governor and key APC figure, and Governor Alia, who has been at the helm since 2023.
Differences have reportedly surfaced over political control, party structures, appointments, and influence within the state chapter of the APC.
Shettima’s intervention is seen as an effort by the presidency to foster harmony ahead of critical governance tasks and preparations for future elections.
The Vice President underscored that internal harmony among party leaders is essential to sustaining the momentum of President Bola Tinubu’s administration and ensuring tangible dividends reach the grassroots.
The Renewed Hope Ambassadors Summit brought together governors, party leaders, and stakeholders to review progress on key policies and rally support for the administration’s agenda.
