In a major intelligence-led operation, joint security forces in Katsina State have rescued 21 kidnap victims and arrested four suspected bandits in Dargaza Hills, Danmusa Local Government Area.
The rescued individuals include 16 women, two men, and three babies. They were abducted from Gidan Sarkin Bayero Village in Musawa Local Government Area and other nearby communities.
According to a statement from the Katsina State Government, the victims comprised 19 Christians and two Muslims, underscoring the indiscriminate targeting by criminal elements and reinforcing the administration’s resolve to protect all citizens irrespective of faith or background.
The operation, which targeted the hideout of notorious bandit leader Kamilu Chiroma (also known as Buzaru), involved personnel from the Department of State Services (DSS), Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force, and the Katsina State Community Watch Corps.
The four arrested suspects are currently in custody and undergoing interrogation, with the state government vowing they will face the full weight of the law once investigations are concluded.
Governor Dikko Umaru Radda’s administration hailed the rescue as a clear demonstration of effective intelligence gathering, inter-agency collaboration, and the professionalism of security operatives.
“The successful operation highlights the synergy among our security agencies and their unwavering commitment to tackling insecurity,” the statement read.
“Governor Radda’s determination to eradicate banditry and restore lasting peace across Katsina State remains non-negotiable.”
The government further commended the courage and discipline displayed by the participating security teams and assured residents of continued aggressive action against criminal groups operating in the state.
The rescue comes amid ongoing efforts by Katsina authorities to dismantle bandit strongholds and secure vulnerable communities in the northwestern region, where kidnappings for ransom have remained a persistent security challenge.
