Prominent commentator Reno Omokri has accused former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai and his sons of having a "strong case to answer" over the 2019 disappearance of activist Abubakar Idris, known as Dadiyata.
In a detailed post on X dated Friday, February 20, 2026, Omokri cited alleged statements and threats by El-Rufai and family members as circumstantial evidence linking them to the case.
Dadiyata, a vocal critic of El-Rufai, was abducted from his home in Kaduna on August 2, 2019, and has remained missing for nearly seven years.
Omokri quoted el-Rufai as saying: "Anybody that tries to criminalise Nasir El-Rufa’i should know that he has a battle on his hands till one of us drops dead."
He contrasted this with Dadiyata's repeated accusations of criminality against El-Rufai.
He also referenced a December 23, 2019, statement from El-Rufai's son Bashir El-Rufai: “Dangerous lies in the public space have consequences,” which Omokri interpreted as justifying the disappearance.
Omokri further alleged threats by Bashir in August 2025, including a post threatening to "unalive" a user and their family, noting the claim that locating the person was "easier than you think" as implying surveillance capabilities.
He accused another son, Bello el-Rufai (former House member), of issuing threats during a probe into alleged ₦432 billion looting from Kaduna coffers, and referenced a 2020 private message containing graphic rape threats against Igbo women.
Omokri described these as evidence of "death threats" and "blood lust," concluding there is "DEFINITELY sufficient evidence" for El-Rufai and his sons to answer questions about Dadiyata's fate.
He praised Dadiyata as "young, intelligent, handsome and fearless," contrasting him with the "fiendish family."
The post aligns with recent developments: The Department of State Services (DSS) has reopened the investigation and plans to invite suspects, as reported by outlets like Punch and The Nation.
Dadiyata's wife, Khadija Ahmad Lame, recently shared in a video interview with Omokri her pain over alleged mockery by Bashir el-Rufai and appealed for her husband's return "dead or alive."
El-Rufai has denied involvement, stating on Arise TV in February 2026 that Dadiyata criticized the Kano government more than Kaduna's.
No formal charges have been filed against El-Rufai or his sons, and the case remains unresolved amid ongoing public pressure for justice.
Omokri has advocated for Dadiyata since shortly after the abduction, including in columns and social media posts dating back to 2019.
