The Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), led by Nigeria’s First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has provided food items and cash assistance to 2,000 vulnerable women in Borno State as part of its Ramadan relief programme.
The distribution, coordinated by Dr. Falmata Zulum, wife of Borno State Governor Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, took place in Maiduguri.
Dr. Zulum stated that the intervention aims to lessen the impact of economic hardship and the lingering effects of insurgency on women and households during the holy month of Ramadan.
Each beneficiary received:
25 kg bag of rice
10 kg bag of sugar
One carton of spaghetti
5 litres of vegetable oil
₦20,000 cash
She encouraged the women to use the items wisely, describing Ramadan as “a month of charity, compassion, sharing, and divine blessings.”
The programme forms part of the First Lady’s Renewed Hope Initiative to support vulnerable women, widows, and displaced persons across Nigeria, with similar distributions ongoing in other states.
The gesture has been praised for directly reaching grassroots beneficiaries in the Northeast, where prolonged conflict continues to affect access to basic needs.
