Former presidential aspirant Kingsley Moghalu has declared that quitting Nigerian politics remains the best decision he has ever made, citing greater personal fulfilment, family priorities, and deep disillusionment with the country's political system.
In a recent post on his verified X handle, Moghalu reflected on his brief but intense involvement in partisan politics.
He explained that he left a prestigious academic position in 2018 to run for the presidency in 2019.
He made another attempt in the 2023 election cycle but withdrew, describing it as a result of betrayal by political operatives on an alternative platform.
Moghalu emphasized the heavy personal costs of his political pursuits, including sacrifices of time, health, family resources, and income from honest professional work.
“I decided it wasn’t worth the bother for someone who does not need the Nigerian ‘system’ to feed, and whose contributions are demanded and appreciated well elsewhere. So I ended my brief foray into politics and returned to international professional life. Best decision I ever made. Life since has been quiet, happy, and fulfilling,” he wrote.
The former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria highlighted that he no longer feels compelled to engage with Nigeria's challenging political environment, where his skills and expertise are better valued and utilized in global professional circles.
Moghalu's statement has resonated across social media, with many Nigerians expressing mixed reactions, some praising his candor about the frustrations of politics in the country, while others lament the loss of principled voices from the arena.
Since stepping away, Moghalu has focused on his international career, including roles in academia, strategy consulting, and leadership initiatives outside Nigeria.
