NIMC Launches Free Nationwide Ward-Level NIN Registration Starting February 16

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has announced the start of a major nationwide initiative to conduct National Identification Number (NIN) enrollment directly at the ward level across Nigeria.

In an official statement, NIMC's Head of Corporate Communications, Dr. Kayode Adegoke, confirmed that the exercise will kick off on Monday, February 16, 2026. This move follows a presidential directive aimed at bringing NIN registration closer to the grassroots, ensuring no one is left behind in the national identity database.

The ward-level enrollment is completely free of charge and targets all Nigerians and legal residents, including children, adults, and families. By decentralizing the process, NIMC seeks to make registration more accessible, eliminate the need for long-distance travel, reduce overcrowding at traditional centers, and boost overall participation in the National Identity Database.

This initiative aligns with the Federal Government's Renewed Hope Agenda under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which emphasizes inclusive governance, improved access to services, and comprehensive identity coverage for national development.

Ward-specific enrollment schedules detailing dates, locations, and rotational deployments of NIMC staff and licensed partners are available on the official NIMC website.

NIMC urged eligible individuals and families to seize this opportunity and enroll promptly to obtain or update their NIN, a key requirement for accessing various government services, financial transactions, and more.
