Seyi Law, the Nigerian comedian-turned politician, has claimed that President Bola Tinubu’s administration has provided better security than its predecessors.
The stand-up comedian shared his opinion on the state of the
nation during a yet-to-be released episode of the Honest Bunch podcast, where
he was asked by one of the hosts whether Nigeria is safer now than it was 10
years ago.
Law responded emphatically, asserting that the country is
safer for citizens under Tinubu than it was under the two previous
administrations — those of Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari.
He claimed the current government has neutralised more
bandits than previous administrations and noted that reports of bomb blasts
have significantly reduced.
The 42-year-old politician, who endorsed Tinubu as his
preferred candidate at the 2023 presidential election, further argued that the
nation’s economy has improved under his leadership.
“Nigeria is safer now than 10 years ago. This government has
killed more bandits since Jonathan’s. When have you last heard of a bomb blast?
It is not today that they have been kidnapping people in their houses,” he
said.
“Nigeria’s economy is better than Tinubu met it.”
However, his position was immediately contested by another
guest on the podcast, who argued that “Nigeria is more unsafe than it has ever
been”.
Nigeria has been facing a series of security challenges,
including attacks by Boko Haram, Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in
the northwest region of the country and criminal gangs, known locally as
“bandits,” who have also looted and kidnapped for ransom in recent years.
A report quoted the National Human Rights Commission as
saying that at least 2,266 people were killed by bandits or insurgents during
the first half of 2025 – surpassing the total number of such deaths in all of
2024.
