The Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abdulmalik Mohammed Sarkin-Daji, has lauded the Nigerian Army, the Department of State Services (DSS), and other security agencies for their decisive and successful operations that have significantly disrupted bandit activities in Mariga Local Government Area and surrounding communities in the Niger North Senatorial District.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the Assembly’s acting Head of Directorate of Media and Public Relations, Mairo Adamu Mani, the Speaker described the recent clearance operations as a “major breakthrough” in the ongoing battle against insecurity in the state.
“This decisive action has greatly weakened the activities of criminal elements in the affected areas and restored confidence among residents who had lived in fear for a long time,” the statement quoted the Speaker as saying.
He particularly highlighted the bravery, professionalism, and unwavering commitment of the personnel involved, noting that the joint operations driven by credible intelligence resulted in the elimination of several bandits, the arrest of others, and the successful rescue of over 70 kidnapped persons.
Rt. Hon. Sarkin-Daji commended the special forces and DSS operatives for their tireless sacrifices and willingness to risk their lives daily to protect citizens and restore peace across Niger State and the nation at large.“I deeply appreciate the officers and men who put their lives on the line to ensure peace, stability, and the safety of citizens, especially in vulnerable communities,” he stated.
The Speaker reaffirmed the Niger State Government’s full commitment to supporting security agencies through every available means, assuring them of continued logistical, material, and moral backing to sustain momentum against criminal elements.
“The state will continue to provide all necessary assistance to strengthen security operations,” the statement emphasized, adding that the Niger State Government remains dedicated to collaborating closely with all security stakeholders until insecurity is completely eradicated.
Addressing residents, the Speaker called for calm, vigilance, and continued cooperation with security forces.“I appeal to all Nigerlites to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding,” he urged.
“The government considers the security of lives and property as its topmost priority. I encourage residents to continue to support security agencies by providing credible and timely information that will aid ongoing and future operations aimed at sustaining peace and stability across the state.”
The commendation comes amid renewed optimism in parts of Niger State following intensified military and intelligence-led efforts to reclaim communities long held hostage by banditry and kidnapping gangs.
The operations underscore the critical role of inter-agency synergy and community intelligence in turning the tide against insecurity in the North-Central region.
