The Nasarawa State Government has approved a total of ₦13 billion to fund the construction of one kilometre of road in each of the state's 13 local government areas (LGAs).
The initiative aims to boost infrastructure development and drive grassroots progress across the state. The announcement was made by Aminu Muazu-Maifata, Commissioner for Local Government, Community Development, and Chieftaincy Affairs, during a ministerial press conference in Lafia on Monday, February 2, 2026.
According to the commissioner, the decision followed consultations and agreements with local government council chairmen. "It is in our meetings with them that we agreed to construct one kilometre of road in each area council, and ₦13 billion was approved for the projects," he stated.
To kickstart implementation, 30% of the approved funds have already been released from state savings directly to the council chairmen. Construction has begun and is progressing at different stages in various locations across Nasarawa State.
The project underscores the administration's commitment to decentralizing development efforts and empowering local governments to address community-specific infrastructure needs. Governor Abdullahi Sule's government has emphasized autonomy for the LGAs, enabling them to execute such targeted interventions.
This road construction drive is expected to improve connectivity, ease transportation challenges in rural and semi-urban areas, and support economic activities at the grassroots level.
