The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has raided a major warehouse in Lagos, confiscating banned, fake, and unregistered cosmetic products valued at more than ₦3 billion.
The hidden facility, located inside an uncompleted building at the APT Trade Fair Complex in Ojo, was discovered during a routine surveillance operation.
It contained large stockpiles of prohibited skin-lightening and other harmful cosmetics.
Among the seized items were:
728 cartons of Crusader soap
718 cartons of E45 soap
Multiple batches of Extract Gold whitening soaps
These products, banned by the Federal Government, often contain dangerous levels of mercury, hydroquinone, and other toxic substances linked to severe skin damage, kidney failure, and other serious health risks.
NAFDAC officials have removed all the products from the site to prevent them from reaching consumers.
The warehouse manager has been invited for questioning as investigations continue, with possible prosecutions to follow.
The agency stressed its ongoing crackdown on counterfeit and substandard regulated products, warning Nigerians to avoid unregistered cosmetics and to buy only from verified, NAFDAC-approved sources.
This seizure highlights the persistent threat of illegal beauty products flooding major markets, particularly in commercial hubs like Lagos, and reinforces NAFDAC’s commitment to safeguarding public health.
