The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) air component of Operation FANSAN YANMA conducted a successful precision airstrike that eliminated approximately 27 heavily armed bandits in Katsina State's Faskari Local Government Area.
The operation took place in the early morning hours of February 1, targeting confirmed bandit hideouts along the Shawu–Mununu forest axis in the Ruwan Godiya area. Intelligence from sustained aerial surveillance had pinpointed these locations as bases for groups responsible for recent violent attacks, including incidents along the Bakori–Guga corridor.
According to credible sources familiar with the mission, NAF aircraft launched a coordinated reconnaissance and strike at around 6:30 a.m., directly engaging the identified camps."The strikes hit their targets with precision, neutralizing about 27 armed bandits linked to ongoing insecurity in the region," the sources confirmed.
Post-strike assessments showed survivors scattering in disarray, abandoning their camps, weapons, and logistical supplies. The operation has substantially weakened the bandits' ability to operate freely in the forested areas spanning southern Katsina, disrupting their mobility and command structure.
"There will be no safe haven for these criminals in this region," a source emphasized. In the aftermath, the NAF has ramped up aerial surveillance and patrols along the Faskari–Bakori–Guga corridor to block any attempts at regrouping and to bolster ground troops in pursuing fleeing elements.
This airstrike is part of an ongoing joint air-ground strategy under Operation FANSAN YANMA to systematically dismantle bandit networks across Nigeria's North-West zone.
Military sources reaffirmed the NAF's dedication to national security: "Our air crews will continue to control the skies, deny these groups sanctuary, and safeguard innocent communities."They called on local residents to remain vigilant and share reliable intelligence on criminal activities or hideouts with security forces."The protection of our citizens remains paramount. With community cooperation, we will keep degrading and ultimately defeating all threats to peace and stability in the area," the sources added.
