Nigeria's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, has arrived in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to lead the Nigerian delegation at the 48th Ordinary Session of the African Union (AU) Executive Council.
The high-level meeting, which brings together foreign ministers and designated representatives from AU member states, runs for two days from February 11 to 12, 2026, at the AU headquarters.
It serves as a key preparatory forum ahead of the 39th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government, scheduled for February 14 and 15, 2026.During the Executive Council session, Minister Tuggar will prioritize critical continental issues, including peace and security, democratic governance, and sustainable development aligning with the broader goals of Agenda 2063 and the current AU theme focused on sustainable water and sanitation systems.
In addition to the main proceedings, Tuggar is expected to engage in several bilateral meetings with counterparts from African nations and beyond. These discussions aim to reinforce Nigeria's diplomatic ties and advance mutual interests across the continent and globally.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through its Spokesperson Kimiebi Ebienfa, has stated that updates on significant outcomes and developments from the summit will be shared as the sessions progress.
