Makinde, Kwankwaso Hold Closed-Door Meeting in Ibadan

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the national leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), held a private closed-door meeting today at the Oyo State Government House/Secretariat in Ibadan.

The high-profile engagement, which unfolded behind closed doors, has ignited widespread speculation across Nigeria's political landscape about potential alliances or strategic discussions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Kwankwaso, a key opposition figure and 2023 presidential candidate for the NNPP, arrived in the Oyo State capital for the talks, with videos and photos circulating on social media showing the two leaders exchanging greetings upon arrival.

Observers point to the cross-party nature, PDP and NNPP, as a possible sign of broader opposition consultations or realignments, especially given Makinde's growing national influence within the PDP and Kwankwaso's independent political stature.

However, Governor Makinde downplayed political motives after the session. Speaking to local media, including Crest FM Ibadan, he described Kwankwaso's visit as non-political in nature, though he offered no further details on the agenda.

This encounter follows Makinde's recent visit to former military president General Ibrahim Babangida in Minna, Niger State, adding to the narrative of behind-the-scenes political maneuvering in the buildup to 2027.

No official communique has been released from either side regarding the substance of their discussions, leaving room for ongoing analysis and rumors in Nigeria's ever-dynamic political scene.

As the country edges closer to the next electoral cycle, such meetings between influential figures continue to fuel anticipation and debate about possible coalitions that could reshape the opposition landscape.
