Kwara Schools Reopen Amid Improved Security

In a significant step toward restoring normalcy in education amid ongoing security challenges, the Kwara State Government has directed the immediate reopening of all schools across the state, effective Monday, February 2, 2026.

The announcement came in a statement issued on Sunday by the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, and signed by the ministry’s Press Secretary, Peter Amogbonjaye.

Schools in the southern and northern parts of the state had been closed for periods ranging from weeks to up to three months due to heightened banditry threats.

The government attributed the decision to a marked improvement in the security situation, crediting sustained operations by security forces to neutralize threats, including those targeting schools and communities.

“The government deems the situation now to be a lot better than it was before,” the statement read. “Even so, we continue to maintain vigilance.”

It further noted that security operations are ongoing to sustain recent gains, while efforts are being made to build community resilience alongside kinetic measures.

School authorities have been formally notified, and the move aims to allow students to resume academic activities without further delay.
