Hundreds of youths, women, and residents protested across Kaduna State, demanding the immediate release of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai.
Demonstrations took place along the Western Bypass in Kaduna metropolis and in Kafanchan, Southern Kaduna.
Protesters waved placards reading “Free El-Rufai Now,” “Justice for Our Leader,” and “Kaduna Demands Governance, Not Revenge,” while chanting in solidarity.
The protests stem from El-Rufai's ongoing detention by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) after his initial invitation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on February 16.
His bail has been denied amid investigations, and a related court case was adjourned to April 23 due to his absence while in custody.
Ibrahim Modibbo Sanusi of the Arewa Youth Movement addressed the crowd: “We demand his immediate and unconditional release. Justice must be seen to be done.”
He hinted at possible escalation, including a potential one-million-man march in Abuja if no action is taken.
The demonstrations remained peaceful, with no immediate official response from police or government authorities reported.
Participants expressed frustration over what they see as prolonged and unfair detention.
