In a statement issued Friday and signed by its National Chairman, Ezekiel Gambo, the group said the former governor’s remarks had generated public discussion about governance, civil liberties, and institutional accountability in the state.
El-Rufai had earlier expressed concern over what he described as arbitrary arrests by the current administration. Kaduna-Scribe noted that such concerns highlight the importance of safeguarding the rule of law while allowing security agencies to carry out their duties within constitutional limits.
The organisation stressed that investigations by security agencies should proceed without premature conclusions, underscoring the need for adherence to legal standards and respect for fundamental rights.
According to the group, constructive dialogue around civil liberties and governance strengthens democratic institutions and promotes public trust.
Kaduna-Scribe also observed that public conversations about governance often revisit past reforms and policy decisions, particularly in areas such as urban development, public service restructuring, and institutional administration.
The group noted that reforms undertaken during previous administrations were frequently presented as efforts to improve service delivery and administrative efficiency, while also generating varied public reactions typical of major policy changes.
On security, the organisation acknowledged that Kaduna State, like many parts of the country, has faced complex challenges over the years. It emphasised the importance of collaboration among federal, state, and community stakeholders in addressing threats and ensuring public safety.
Kaduna-Scribe urged public figures and stakeholders to promote responsible discourse, particularly as political activities gradually intensify ahead of future elections.
“Discussions about governance and security should strengthen institutions and public confidence rather than deepen divisions,” the statement said.
Observers note that the exchange reflects broader national conversations about balancing security imperatives with civil liberties, as well as the role of public commentary in shaping democratic accountability.
