Former Presidents Goodluck Jonathan and Olusegun Obasanjo, alongside other high-profile dignitaries, are set to grace the inauguration of a new Christian chapel at Nigeria's National Assembly on Sunday, March 1, 2026.
The non-denominational worship centre, boasting a seating capacity of 750, will be commissioned and dedicated by the Christian Legislators Fellowship of the National Assembly.
The event promises a gathering focused on thanksgiving, spiritual reflection, and strengthening fellowship among Christian lawmakers and assembly staff.
Nigeria's First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, is also expected to attend, along with General Yakubu Gowon (former head of state), Daniel Okoh (president of the Christian Association of Nigeria - CAN), Francis Oke (president of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria - PFN), and Matthew Kukah (Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese), among other prominent Christian leaders and policymakers.
The chapel project, which began in May 2019 during the speakership of Yakubu Dogara, represents a significant addition to the National Assembly Complex, providing a dedicated space for spiritual activities.
In a joint statement, Senator Binus Yaroe (president of the fellowship) and Hon. Bamidele Salam (secretary) described the occasion as a milestone that will foster deeper spiritual bonds within the legislative community.
The inauguration is anticipated to draw widespread attention as a unifying moment for faith and governance in Nigeria.
