The Jigawa State and Local Governments Contributory Pension Scheme Board has released more than N1.4 billion in retirement and death benefits to 564 beneficiaries, comprising retired civil servants and families of deceased workers.
The total approved sum of N1,429,201,208.92 covers:N1,191,804,237.17 paid as retirement entitlements to 485 retired civil servants.
N226,547,197.84 disbursed as death benefits to families of 71 deceased workers.
N10,849,773.91 for outstanding death pension balances to families of 8 deceased pensioners.
Dr. Binyaminu Shitu Aminu, Executive Secretary of the Board, confirmed the payments, stating: "The approved sum of N1,429,201,208.92 covers retirement benefits, death benefits, and outstanding death pension balances."
He reiterated the board's commitment to timely pension administration, noting that monthly pensions are paid regularly on the first day of every month.Alhaji Abdullahi S.G. Shehu, the Jigawa State Accountant General, praised the state's pension system as one of the best in Nigeria.
He highlighted that since Governor Umar Namadi assumed office in May 2023, over N11 billion has been injected into the pension scheme to strengthen and sustain its effectiveness.
