Iran has promised a forceful and devastating response following coordinated military strikes by the United States and Israel that targeted sites across the country, including the capital Tehran and other major cities.
Explosions rocked several Iranian locations early Saturday, including Kermanshah, Lorestan province, Tabriz, Isfahan, Karaj, and areas near Tehran.
Iranian state media and officials reported widespread blasts, with smoke rising over parts of the capital.
The strikes appear to have focused on military and strategic infrastructure, amid ongoing tensions over Iran's nuclear program and ballistic missile development.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz described the action as a "pre-emptive attack" aimed at neutralizing threats to Israel's security.
The operation follows a previous 12-day air conflict between Israel and Iran in June 2025, as well as repeated warnings from both Washington and Jerusalem that further action would be taken if Iran advanced its prohibited programs.
An Iranian official, speaking to Reuters, confirmed that Tehran is actively preparing counterstrikes, describing the planned retaliation as "crushing."
Ebrahim Azizi, head of the National Security Commission in Iran's parliament, issued a stark warning on social media: "We warned you! Now you have started down a path which end is no longer in your control."
Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was reportedly not in Tehran at the time of the attacks and has been moved to a secure location for safety.
US President Donald Trump announced the American involvement via a post on Truth Social, stating that US forces had initiated "major combat operations" in Iran.
He framed the strikes as necessary to protect American interests, eliminate "imminent threats" from what he called a "vicious" regime, and prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons or developing long-range missiles capable of reaching US allies or territory.
"Our objective is to defend the American people by eliminating imminent threats from the Iranian regime," Trump said.
He emphasized that the operations were "massive and ongoing," with the goal of dismantling Iran's missile capabilities and navy.
The attacks mark a significant escalation in the long-standing confrontation between Iran and the US-Israel alliance, raising fears of broader regional conflict.
