Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has stated that he is not contesting for president ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking in an interview on Arise TV on Friday, El-Rufai
made it clear that he has not decided to run for the country’s top office.
“I have said this over and over, I’m not a candidate for any
office. I would have been in Egypt pursuing my PhD, but because I contributed
to putting this government in place, I am still here to correct the decision,”
he said.
When asked directly if he would run for president in 2027,
El-Rufai replied, “For now, I am not running.”
However, he acknowledged that politics can be unpredictable.
“You never say never in politics,” he said.
He explained that circumstances could change if party
leaders ask him to step forward.
“But the decision to run for president has not been made by
me,” he added.
El-Rufai also expressed concern about the state of the
country, describing Nigeria as being in a difficult situation.
