An Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) belonging to the Nigerian Army was completely destroyed after it struck an improvised explosive device (IED) along the Keta–Danjibga road in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The incident occurred on Friday evening, February 20, 2026, while troops were providing escort to civilian vehicles along the high-risk route frequently targeted by bandits.
Security analyst Bakatsine shared details of the attack on Saturday, citing local sources. According to reports, the explosion engulfed the military vehicle in flames immediately after detonation.
Local witnesses claimed that suspected bandits were seen celebrating the blast and allegedly claimed responsibility upon confirming the APC's destruction.
The exact number of casualties among the troops remains unconfirmed and could not be independently verified as of press time.
This latest attack highlights the escalating threat of IEDs deployed by non-state armed groups in Zamfara, amid ongoing banditry and insecurity in the northwest region.
Troops in the area have been conducting operations to secure key highways and protect civilian movement, but such incidents continue to pose significant risks.
No official statement has been issued by the Nigerian Army or defence authorities regarding the event at the time of this report.
