A former aide to late President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, has expressed concern over the worsening security situation in parts of Northern Nigeria.
Ahmad said it was “heartbreaking” to witness the continued
deterioration of security in some northern communities, noting that in areas
once known for peace, residents are now living in constant fear amid loss of
lives and the collapse of livelihoods and local economies.
He stressed that insecurity should not be seen as a
challenge for the government alone, describing it as a collective concern
requiring the involvement of leaders, traditional institutions, security
agencies, stakeholders and the general public.
Posting on X, Ahmad said lasting solutions can only be
achieved through unity, trust, intelligence sharing and sustained commitment to
justice and development.
He also offered prayers for peace, asking Allah to grant
lasting stability in the region and across the country.
Ahmad wrote: “It is so heartbreaking seeing how insecurity
continues to worsen in some parts of the North. Communities that once thrived
in peace have been living under constant fear with loss of lives and the
collapse of people’s livelihoods and economies.
“This is not a challenge for the government alone, it is a
collective concern that involves leaders, traditional institutions, security
agencies, stakeholders and the general public.
“This is the time for all of us to unite in finding lasting
solutions and we know that lasting solutions cannot be achieved in isolation,
it requires trust, intelligence sharing and sustained commitment to justice and
development. May Allah grant us lasting peace in our region and across our
country.”
