In a significant political development, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has officially dissolved the State Executive Council with immediate effect.
The announcement, made on Thursday, February 12, 2026, comes amid ongoing efforts to resolve the protracted political crisis in the state, including recent interventions by President Bola Tinubu.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi, Governor Fubara expressed profound gratitude to the outgoing members of the Executive Council including commissioners and special advisers for their dedicated service to the people of Rivers State.
The governor directed all commissioners and special advisers to immediately hand over their duties and responsibilities to the permanent secretaries or the most senior officers in their respective ministries and agencies.
He wished the departing officials success in their future endeavors and emphasized that the dissolution marks a step toward refreshing his administration.
This move has sparked widespread reactions, with many observers linking it to broader political realignments following recent high-level discussions aimed at ending factional tensions in the state.
The Rivers State House of Assembly is now expected to receive and screen nominees for a new cabinet in due course.
The dissolution takes effect immediately, ensuring continuity of government operations through the career civil service leadership in the interim.
