Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has restated his administration's dedication to ensuring that retired civil servants receive their pension payments on time, stressing that service to the state continues to be valued even after retirement.
During a recent meeting with leaders from the Association of Lagos State Retired Heads of Service and Permanent Secretaries—including Otunba Nurudeen Ojora Adejiyan and Dr. Abeke Taire, the governor highlighted the importance of honoring retirees' lifelong contributions to the state's progress.
Sanwo-Olu emphasized that in Lagos, public service does not conclude upon leaving office. He commended the retirees for dedicating their prime years to building the state and assured them of continued respect and dignity in retirement.
The governor expressed pride in the state's track record, noting that Lagos has remained consistent in fulfilling its pension obligations. He stated that timely payments are a matter of principle, ensuring no retiree faces uncertainty or hardship over delayed funds after years of faithful service.
"In Lagos, public service does not end when someone leaves office. These are men and women who gave their best years to our state, and they deserve respect and dignity in retirement," Sanwo-Olu said.
"One thing I am particularly proud of is that Lagos continues to meet its obligations to our retirees. We remain consistent and timely with pension payments because it is the right thing to do. After serving the state faithfully, no one should have to worry about when their pension will be paid. That responsibility rests with us, and we take it seriously. There is always more to improve, but our direction is clear. In Lagos, we honour those who have served."
This pledge aligns with recent actions by the state government, which has disbursed significant sums in accrued pension rights and retirement benefits to thousands of retirees under the Contributory Pension Scheme, demonstrating a sustained focus on retirees' welfare amid economic challenges.
