Kaduna State Governor Senator Uba Sani has approved the release of over 90 inmates convicted of minor offences by covering their fines and compensation payments, in a compassionate move timed with the start of Ramadan and the Christian season of Lent.
Announced on February 18, 2026, the gesture seeks to offer relief to deserving inmates, encourage reconciliation, support social reintegration, and provide a second chance, in line with the themes of mercy, forgiveness, and renewal central to both religious observances.
In a statement from Commissioner for Information Ahmed Maiyaki, the governor called on the freed individuals to pursue peace, seek forgiveness where needed, and lead lives of integrity, law-abiding conduct, and service to God and community.
Governor Sani extended Ramadan greetings to Muslims in Kaduna, Nigeria, and globally, describing the month as “a sacred pillar of faith that nurtures the soul and elevates the spirit” a time for deeper devotion, charity, and strengthened brotherhood.
He encouraged Muslims to reflect, show compassion, promote peaceful coexistence, and share meals and resources with the vulnerable.He also appealed to all citizens, regardless of faith, to pray for peace in Kaduna State, noting that diversity is a strength and shared destiny unites the people.
The administration reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining peace, economic revival, and inclusive prosperity.
