Gov Kefas Releases N300m for Construction of New Mosques in Taraba

Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas has fulfilled his pledge to the Muslim community in Donga Local Government Area by releasing N300 million for the construction of separate mosques for three Islamic sects involved in a prolonged ownership dispute over the Donga Central Mosque.

The intervention follows weeks of tension and security concerns triggered by disagreements among members of Izala Jos, Izala Kaduna, Darika, and the Muslim Council in Donga over control of the central mosque.

During a visit to the area at the height of the crisis, Governor Kefas assured stakeholders of his administration’s determination to restore peace and promote unity among Muslim faithful.

He promised to support the construction of distinct mosques for the affected groups as a lasting solution to prevent further conflict.

On Wednesday, February 25, 2026, the promise was delivered when the Permanent Secretary, Bureau for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Godfrey Dame, presented cheques totalling N300 million to representatives of the three sects.

Each group received N100 million to begin construction of their respective mosques.

The presentation was announced by the Commissioner for Information and Reorientation, Barrister Zainab Jalingo, who described the governor’s action as a clear demonstration of responsive leadership, religious tolerance, and commitment to peaceful coexistence and equitable development across Taraba State.

Community leaders in Donga expressed deep appreciation to Governor Kefas for honouring his word, describing the gesture as timely, thoughtful, and highly commendable.

They noted that the provision of separate worship spaces would significantly reduce tensions, encourage mutual understanding, and help avert future misunderstandings within the Muslim community.

Observers view the initiative as a critical step toward sustainable peace and stability in Donga, underscoring the state government’s dedication to inclusive governance, proactive conflict resolution, and safeguarding religious harmony.

The move has been widely praised as an example of effective leadership in addressing communal disputes through dialogue and tangible support rather than prolonged confrontation.
