FUOYE Secures N1 Billion FG Grant for Commercial Agric Farm

The Federal University Oye Ekiti (FUOYE) has received N1 billion from the Federal Government under a special initiative aimed at establishing mechanised commercial farms and strengthening agricultural production in selected federal universities.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina disclosed this during a press conference on February 2, 2026, ahead of the institution’s 10th convocation ceremony.

The grant is part of a larger N30 billion allocation by the Federal Government to support mechanised farming, livestock production, and improved food security by harnessing the expertise of university agriculture faculties.

According to the Vice-Chancellor, the funding is intended to enable universities to produce food for their students and surrounding communities while adopting modern agricultural techniques.

Prof. Fasina also highlighted other achievements, including over N430 million in research grants secured by academic staff and more than $55,000 in additional funding attracted to the university.

For the upcoming convocation, a total of 7,396 students will graduate. The breakdown includes:

131 students with First Class honours

2,519 with Second Class Lower

3,777 with Third Class

Under his administration’s “Blue Roof Legacy,” the university has completed over 160 infrastructural projects across its campuses.

Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) has increased by 310%, faculties have expanded from 8 to 18, and academic programmes have grown from 73 to 91, with most now holding full or interim accreditation.

FUOYE is now the fourth most subscribed university in Nigeria and ranked fourth nationally in the 2026 Times Higher Education rankings.

It has also performed strongly in various global categories, including Impact Rankings, Subject Rankings, Interdisciplinary Science Rankings, and Sub-Saharan Africa Rankings.

In a new policy, the university will confer Emeritus Professorship on all former Vice-Chancellors over the age of 70 upon retirement to preserve institutional memory and honour distinguished service.

At this convocation, the title will be awarded to Professors Chinedu Nebo, Isaac Asuzu, and Kayode Soremekun.

The Vice-Chancellor also spoke about the Diaspora Professors Programme, which brings distinguished international scholars to contribute to teaching, research, and collaboration.

Among those already engaged are Prof. Hartmut Herrmann and Prof. Khaneh Wadinga Fomba from the Leibniz Institute for Tropospheric Research in Leipzig, Germany.

The 10th convocation ceremonies celebrate FUOYE’s remarkable growth and dedication to excellence in education, research, and national development.
