Frederick Leonard, the Nigerian actor, has taken action against filmmaker Stanley Ontop Ajemba, accusing him of a sustained campaign of defamation.
Leonard filed a petition with the Delta state police
command, dated January 26, seeking intervention and redress.
In the petition, Leonard alleged that Ajemba, who described
himself as an actors’ rights activist, has “persistently defamed me for over
two years”.
It added that the actions, described as “unprovoked,” have
seriously undermined the actor’s integrity and professional reputation.
The document stated that Ajemba’s “several unfounded
allegations” have progressed to the point of “causing our client serious loss
of earning”.
It emphasized that the remarks were made “without no
justifiable reasons” and calls for Ajemba to “correct and takedown” the
negative impressions he has disseminated.
“Mr. Stanley Chibueze Ajemba, who is a self-styled, actors
right activist, has persisted in the defamation of our client’s reputation
unprovoked for over 2 years,” the petition reads in part.
“It is our brief that the said Mr. Stanley Chibueze Ajemba
has made several unfounded allegations that seriously undermines our client’s
integrity to the point of causing our client serious loss of earning if left
unchecked and if he doesn’t correct and takedown those negative impression, he
has been feeding the public with.”
Leonard’s legal team also made several specific requests to
the police: to conduct an independent and thorough investigation into the
allegations.
They demanded that Ajemba is invited for questioning
regarding his actions and that the police compel him to issue a written apology
and retract all previous “libelous” publications.
In response, Ajemba reacted with a cryptic social media post
containing fresh accusations.
He alleged that Leonard abused his crew members on movie
sets and is involved in extra-marital affairs with young actresses.
