Former National Women Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hajiya Mariya Waziri, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kebbi State.
Waziri was received on Monday by Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi. She defected alongside the PDP Women Leader in the state and other party executives.
Addressing a large gathering of women supporters, Waziri said her decision to join the APC was informed by what she described as the impressive developmental projects being executed by the Idris administration across the state.
“I have been in the PDP for 20 years without joining any other party. My decision to join the APC today shows my confidence in the level of development I am seeing in Kebbi State,” she said.
She explained that after touring various parts of the state, she became convinced that the APC-led government was delivering meaningful progress.
“I have gone round the state and I am impressed with the projects. I will work tirelessly to ensure the victory of Governor Nasir Idris in 2027,” she added.
Responding, Governor Idris described Waziri as a committed and development-oriented leader who has consistently supported women in the state.
He recalled a long-standing family relationship with her and noted that during her tenure as PDP National Women Leader, she regularly assisted women in Kebbi State, particularly during her visits from Abuja.
The governor assured her of equal treatment within the APC, like every other party member, and urged her to mobilise women across the state ahead of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s forthcoming visit to Kebbi State.
