Former Benue State Governor and ex-Senator Gabriel Suswam has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Suswam announced his resignation in a formal letter dated Wednesday, February 4, 2026, addressed to the PDP Chairman of Mbagber Council Ward in Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.
According to reports, the decision stems from years of persistent and unresolved internal conflicts within the party, which Suswam cited as irreconcilable differences that hindered effective participation and progress.
The resignation marks the culmination of ongoing tensions in the Benue PDP chapter, including prior suspensions and factional disputes involving Suswam and other prominent stakeholders.
This move comes against a backdrop of speculation about Suswam's political future, with earlier indications that he may align with another party, potentially the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), though his resignation letter focused primarily on his departure from the PDP.
Suswam, who served as Benue State Governor from 2007 to 2015 and later represented Benue North-East in the Senate, has been a key figure in the state's political landscape for decades.
His exit from the PDP could further reshape opposition dynamics ahead of future elections.
Further details on his next political step are awaited as consultations with supporters and stakeholders continue.
