FG Inaugurates Technical Sub-Committee to Drive Livestock Development Roadmap

The Federal Government has officially inaugurated the National Economic Council (NEC) Technical Sub-Committee on Livestock Development, signaling a renewed push to transform the sector into a major engine for economic growth, food security, and national unity.

Inaugurating the committee at the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning headquarters in Abuja, Minister Atiku Bagudu stated that the sub-committee’s primary task is to consolidate existing policies, resolve overlaps, and fast-track the preparation of a comprehensive, actionable roadmap for livestock development.

The roadmap will be presented for consideration and approval by the full National Economic Council.Senator Bagudu chairs the technical sub-committee, which was established to provide expert support and continuity to the broader high-level NEC committee headed by Kebbi State Governor Dr. Nasir Idris.

The arrangement acknowledges the heavy schedules of state governors and ensures steady progress on technical and policy fronts.

The Minister highlighted President Bola Tinubu’s strong conviction that livestock development is a strategic priority for Nigeria. He highlighted its critical role in boosting agricultural output, enhancing food security, creating jobs, and fostering peace and cohesion across communities.

“Livestock is not just about farming; it is central to our national economic agenda,” Bagudu said. “Achieving sustainable progress requires seamless collaboration among federal, state, and local governments.

"This ministry will serve as the coordinating secretariat to align efforts, monitor implementation, and ensure that policies translate into tangible results on the ground."

The inauguration reflects the administration’s broader agricultural transformation agenda, with livestock identified as one of the high-impact areas needing urgent, coordinated intervention to unlock its full economic potential.
